Mumbai furniture

MUMBAI Unique shape, materials and technologies build up the exclusiveness of design. A basic design intuition developed following one single line that runs and links to itself. Soft yet daring curves creating an intense though essential project.

An imposing table.

The surface of Mumbai bends and redoubles, thus creating a blank space that becomes the centre of the project. A plywood sheet, folded up to the limits of the material’s mechanical characteristics, defines and encloses a lattice structure made of laser cut steel. A light and discreet architectural “heart” that supports a thin shell.

An innovative exploitation of a traditional material. Sophisticated folding technologies emphasize the characteristics of preciously veneered plywood, and enhance the lightness of the shape.

Technical characteristics:

A large table (W 233 x D 97 x H 73 cm) is the main element of the range. 2 veneered plywood sheets, 14 mm thick, folded with high frequency press technology, define the perimeter shape of Mumbai desk and create and inner empty space housing the metal bearing structure.

All the veneered surfaces and the plywood visible edge have a transparent polyurethane semi-open pore finishing.

The table is supported by a lattice structure made of 2 laser cut steel beams connected by welded steel transoms.

The range can be enriched with different versions of storage unit: a high cabinet (W 233 x D 45 x H 165 cm) or a lower one (W 233 x D 45 x H 85 cm).  The external envelope of the cabinets is made of one folded plywood sheet outlining the shape and the bases of the cupboards. Back, vertical dividers and shelves made of laminated plywood with opaque black finishing complete and stiffen the cabinets.

Both storage unit typologies can be equipped with 2 lateral hinged doors made of plywood.
