The New EUR Rome Convention center as a vaccine centre – interview to Massimiliano Fuksas on HuffPost

In the interview on HuffPost by Linda Varlese, Massimiliano Fuksas reflects on the possibility that the New EUR Rome Convention Center “The Cloud” will play if it would become a Covid-19 vaccine center.

“It’s the Covid that discovered The Cloud”, says Mr.Fuksas, reflecting on the function that his Eur Convention Center, barring second thoughts, will play during the large-scale vaccine campaign that is expected to start soon, housing health care providers and people for vaccine administration.

Mr. Fuksas, you have thought the Convention Center as a meeting place and exchange of artists and travelers from all over the world. Today we are talking about the possibility that the Cloud will become a hub for the vaccination campaign…

Massimiliano Fuksas: I’m not surprised. A building makes sense if it is flexible. Any building, even a house. The fortune, for example, of the permanence of extraordinary buildings, such as the Theatre of Marcellus, lies precisely in this: built in the 1st century A.D., it was first a theater, then it became a sort of ruin and quarry, immediately afterwards it became a fortress, then a palace, then transformed into houses, one of the most important restorations was done by Ludovico Quaroni. If a building does not have this flexibility, at a certain point it disappears. Without a basic, solid function, a building no longer makes sense.
