The Enlighted City: Doriana Fuksas’ interview on Marie Claire Italia

In the interview on MarieClaire Italia, edited by Valeria Balocco, Doriana Fuksas talks about her vision on the city of the future and her experience as a woman in architecture: the enlightened city has shared spaces and fluid houses, let’s design with femininity.

It is fundamental to rethink the inhabited centers, to reflect on the common areas, to redesign our houses, we cannot think of being able to live as we did before the pandemic.

Can we imagine a city of women?
We are all equal, stop talking about women as endangered animals. Surely a woman city planner will think of spaces for children and the elderly, caregiving remains a female matter.

So, new urban spaces: which ones?
Bicycle paths, gardens, illuminated public transport stops, sustainable mobility and electric cars.

And the house?
It must become more and more a space of first aid, a flexible place with fluid spaces, mobile walls, light and transparent that allow you to isolate yourself if you need to.

What advice would you give to young women starting out in the profession?
Never imitate men, don’t lose your femininity, study, always keep up to date and have many dreams to realize.
