FUKSAS: Superground Seoul on “L’ARCA International”.

Studio Fuksas was invited by the Seoul Metropolitan Government to rethink some critical areas of the city of Seoul. The “Superground – Living Infrastructures” development plan aims to transform Seoul into a 21st century city. “URBAN QUANTUM: Adding Complexity to the Urban Milieu” is the project proposal by Massimiliano and Doriana Fuksas for a rational use of the territory, sustainable growth and infrastructural development of Seoul.

Studio Fuksas’ challenge was to provide new strategic scenarios capable of generating an open and intelligent model in the contemporary city approach. The contemporary city in the coming years will be forced to face many challenges related to population density, energy, environment, safety, health and transport. One of the most complex problems is the use of urban land, with limited availability and very expensive, especially in densely urbanized cities with high real estate pressure.

“By making new urban land available within the city at a lower cost, we can balance the speculative inertia that occurs in the city, such as the gentrification or speculation due to the high cost,” explain Massimiliano and Doriana Fuksas
