EST. Storie di Viaggi, Città, Architetture – exhibition at Fondazione Cini in Venice

“The world to the East of the Mediterranean, for centuries an irresistible attraction for Italian travelers, intellectuals, artists and architects, has represented a source for their imagination and an extraordinary occasion for experimentation and research.”

This exhibition – says Luca Molinari – leads us, as if on a journey, to rediscover through the great works created by the best contemporary architecture of our country, the traces of Marco Polo; of the Jesuit Matteo Ricci, who first told and revealed China to the modern West and Giacomo Quarenghi, who designed significant parts of St. Petersburg.

A path in which the papers and images of the past and of the present are mixed telling how the creativity of contemporary authors comes from listening to the places and then turn them into visions of future disorientation.

The exhibition, organized by Forma Edizioni and curated by Luca Molinari Studio, tells stories of places and cities looking towards the East of the world starting from Italy, which remains the central pivot around which the narrative path unfolds.

The choral exhibition will feature six internationally renowned Italian architectural design studios: RPBW – Renzo Piano Building Workshop, aMDL Circle, Studio Fuksas, Archea Associati, Piuarch and MC A – Mario Cucinella Architects.

Studio Fuksas presents four important projects realized in the East part of the world. In China the Shenzhen Bao’An International Airport and the Guosen Securities Tower in Shenzhen. In Georgia, in the city of Tbilisi, the Tbilisi Public Service Hall and the Rhike Park project.

In the Exhibition, for each country, with particular attention to Russia, China, Albania, Georgia and Vietnam, contemporary Italian architectural culture will be compared with the historical imagery, told through the precious materials of the Giorgio Cini Foundation archives.

The curatorial project also includes a catalog edited by Luca Molinari and Federica Rasenti published by Forma Edizioni, which presents thematic insights from scholars and researchers, as well as the voices of Italian protagonists of the journey to the East between the 70s and 80s, such as Tiziano Terzani and Franco Raggi.
