Europark 1 Shopping Mall – Salzburg, Austria
Realized in grilled metal, the wave of covering – 140 meters wide and 320 meters long – is the architectural relief motif for this vast, recently completed project that takes up an area of 120,000 square meters dedicated to commercial space and parking for 3000 cars.
Suggestive allusion to one element – the sea – that is not to be found in Austria, the element of covering, strongly characterized, gives shelter to the parking places, and at the same time acts as a sign of great recall.
The continuity of this element finds its counterpoint in the dynamic disposition and the tension of the lower volumes – determined by the force of the interior “empty space” – that are reserved for commercial activities. In the southern part of the area – enriched with vegetation – a refined play of reflections, between the large walls and serigraphed glass of the commercial center and the pool of water crossed by paths, demonstrate again Fuksas particular constructive sensibility with regard to “light” and “transparency”.
