Massimiliano and Doriana Fuksas talk on La Repubblica about their scenographic project for Puccini’s opera which will kick off the Caracalla 2024 for Opera di Roma on 5 July 2024:
“Our adventure with the opera is part of the long list of our desires, indeed it is one of the greatest.”, explain the two architects on their debut at the Opera, “The first theme was to come to terms with the importance of the ruins of the Baths of Caracalla which are the scale of the Great Rome, with which we did not want to contrast ourselves but to define a foreground with the background of the ancient Terne the shows there man is always seen in the distance, so we created a white background on which the figures stand out well in a space like between a cloud and an iceberg, a fluid, flexible space, a space for the lives of Tosca and of Turandot which in the end is like a house where the sometimes dramatic show of life is staged.”
