Europark 2, Shopping Mall and Theatre – Salzburg, Austria
“In a red sea, red as a sunset, three islands, referred to the three Salzburg mountains, create an emptiness where fluxes and trajectories of visitors and citizens write the notes of a music than changes from day to day from instant to instant.”
Massimiliano Fuksas
The project is based on the dynamic analysis of flux and the study of its origins, Europark II is divided into two parts: the expansion of the existing shopping center and the landscape design of the area surrounding the Europark.
The shopping center is divided into two storeys, two glazed volumes that are penetrated by curved shapes and islands. The car park at the roof level is covered by a variety of fluid shapes recalling the islands below, which become the focal points of the new complex.
The landscape design is organized according to the footpaths. The leisure and children area consists of artificial hills, pedestrian zones and raised areas built in timber, while the bushes of bamboo and other tall plants define a new relation ship between the buildings and the local geography.
